More cargo arrives from Salalah

In International Shipping News 03/07/2017

A ship belonging to the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), Seaboxer, unloaded huge quantities of cargo after calling on Hamad Port.
Enquiries with company officials found that more than 800 containers of foodstuff, construction materials and furniture, among other items, were unloaded from the vessel, which arrived from Salalah Port in Oman.
“The vessel brought home key construction materials for some of the ongoing vital infrastructure projects in the country,” said an official of MSC, a major global liner.
He added that the ship, which is on its way back to Salalah, will call on Hamad Port again on July 6.
The official also informed that a 9,000-TEU vessel sailing from the Far East, and belonging to the same company, is likely to call on Hamad Port in the early hours today.
It will be the first vessel to come from the Far East side since the economic blockade on Qatar started on June 5, according to officials.
Another ship, MSC Kerry recently arrived at Hamad Port from Salalah with cargo from Kuwait and Oman. More than 660 containers of more than 1,200TEUs were offloaded in Doha, it was reported.
Also, the first of the two vessels operating under the new India Qatar Express Service docked at Hamad Port.
The vessel, Hansa Magdeburg, had sailed from Nhava Sheva port in India.
Yesterday, Gulf Times reported that leading global shipping line Maersk had launched a new direct service between Hamad Port and Salalah Port.
The launch of new shipping services between Hamad Port and Sohar and Salalah ports in Oman is expected to enhance the import of food commodities.
