The FCO advise against all travel to the whole country - UK Ships at ISPS Level 3
UK government has issued the highest possible security alert to British shipping companies operating off the coast of Yemen amid a worldwide terror alert focused on the country.
Neil Roberts, a senior insurance underwriter at Lloyd's Market Association, said the Department for Transport had issued a "level three" warning about Yemen on Monday.
Under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code, level three is "exceptional", suggesting a "probable or imminent risk of a security incident".
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to Yemen and strongly urge British nationals to leave now. If you don't leave the country now while commercial carriers are still flying it is extremely unlikely that the British government will be able to evacuate you or provide consular assistance, FCO warns.
The situation in Yemen remains volatile with continuing unrest and violent clashes. The threat of an escalation of violence and disorder remains.
There is a high threat from terrorism throughout Yemen. Terrorists continue to threaten further attacks. There is a very high threat of kidnap from armed tribes, criminals and terrorists. Be particularly vigilant during Ramadan, when tensions could be heightened.
