Club correspondents P&I Associates (Pty) Ltd., Durban, have advised that a new Letter of Indemnity (LOI) has been published which must be signed and sent to port control by vessels engaged in non-standard activities while in Durban. Non-standard activities are summarised as follows:
Exceeding port limitations – oversize – LOA and/or beam
Job of a special nature to include crew transporting, surveyors other state officials, Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) clients, tug & tow, lash-up
No main engine shift
Oil rig stay in port/anchor
Port entry access – indemnity
Ship repairs
Supplying provisions/stores/equipment/water by TNPA craft
Tug & tow & salvage jobs
Tidal vessels – arriving or departing the port and on berth
Vessel immobilisation on the berth
Other (specify)
The new Durban port LOI is now in force and is to be completed and submitted to the port authorities prior to undertaking any of the foregoing activities within Durban port limits.
