The Heart of European Shipping Beats in Piraeus

Maritime industry representatives, the officials who formulate maritime policy in Europe’s ports, will arrive at the port of Piraeus from May 28 to 31, to celebrate the European Maritime Day 2015. The Municipality of Piraeus, the host city for this year’s European Maritime Day has prepared an impressive schedule of events, worthy of the largest maritime event in Europe.
The celebration of European Maritime Day 2015 will begin with a two-day conference at the Athens Concert Hall on Thursday, May 28, and Friday, May 29. High-level sessions and stakeholder workshops attract delegates & experts from across Europe and beyond. European Maritime Day is devoted to the role of territories; ports and coastal cities on the one hand, and more broadly coastal areas on the other hand. Europe needs to be at the forefront of the Blue economy revolution. We want future generations to enjoy the fruits of the sea as much as ourselves. In Piraeus, politicians, experts and CEOs will discuss this challenge and submit their ideas to European policy-makers.
The European Maritime Day Conference will host high-level sessions and stakeholder workshops attracting delegates and experts from across Europe and beyond. Speakers, including Ministers, Commissioners, CEOs and experts, will discuss the spectrum of opportunities and great challenges that our coasts and seas present, share best practices, and develop new synergies.
On 30 and 31 May 2015, the city of Piraeus will host a series of public happenings at various locations of the city, celebrating its rich maritime history and culture. Local maritime stakeholders will put their knowledge on display on the spectacular Piraeus coast.
Piraeus is the largest port in Greece with a unique history. On 30 and 31 May it will open its gates to the visitors who will have the opportunity to explore the archaeological sites and the industrial monuments of the city. Along its coasts individual outdoor and indoors events will be held: excursions by the sea, live performances, music events, marine sports, sailing open days and trips around the coast. Local restaurants will provide special menus and offer traditional seafood dishes and excellent wine.
During the 2-day event archaeological sites, museums, theatres, collections and monuments will be open to the public.
Lectures, job fairs in maritime industry, the latest in marine feature documentaries, educational events, photography exhibitions featuring sea and island treasures, will increase awareness of the importance of the sea on a local, regional and global scale.
