USCG issues relevant questionnaire

The USCG has issued a questionnaire to local shipping agents stating that it has begun screening arriving vessels that have visited the Arabian Peninsula within their previous five port calls for any crewmembers displaying symptoms potentially indicative of Middle East respiratory syndrome - coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
Federal regulations require the master of a ship destined for a US port to report prior to arrival the occurrence on board of any death or of any ill persons during the 15-day period preceding the date of expected arrival.
Infected persons have suffered a very severe, pneumonia-like illness. Consider a crew member or passenger as "Suspicious" if they have the following symptoms:
  • An acute respiratory infection, which may include fever of greater than or equal to 38°C/100.4°F
  • Cough and shortness of breath, and history of travel from the Arabian Peninsula or neighboring countries within the past 14 days;
  • Persons who develop sever acute lower respiratory illness that are close contacts of an ill symptomatic traveler who developed fever and acute respiratory illness with 14 days after travel from the Arabian Peninsula or neighboring countries.
